Well folks, I gotta tell ya...I'm really torn over hockey this year. While I'm really really glad they did come back...and I'm even more elated that mah Blooz came out with a mission tonight on opening night....well...I'm not sure how to say this without seeming like a "traitor" to all of us who "Bleed Bloo". But here it is: I'm not sure I want them to win the cup this year.
"WHAT???" you say? Are you INSANE, KIRK?? Have you COMPLETELY GONE OFF YOUR ROCKER??? No...I haven't...bear with me here a minute, and indulge me by readiing on....
Here's my prediction if they do. Every fan of hockey that's NOT a fan of the Note will start whining "Oh look...how cute...the Blooz took 50 years and still could only manage to win the cup in a year that wasn't a year." It's almost like it won't even "count" because NO one will want to give the team the proper kudos for winning...especially with the "bi-coast bias" of the hockey media (read: ESPN) So, I'd almost rather they "tune it up" this year...get some real good experience going deep into the playoffs...but NOT win...so that they can come back next year an even stronger beast and just beat the livin' crap out of every team in every division and walk away with a cup that NO one will be able to dispute.
There...I said it. I think I laid out my thoughts pretty well. Counter them if you will....
